Self Care ‘friendship bracelet’ - creative activity for wellbeing - Valentines

The relationship with yourself is the longest one you'll ever have.

No matter what happens in life, we are always with ourselves, our thoughts, emotions, and inner world.

Taking care of that relationship is so important because it influences how we relate to others and the world around us.

Creating a self-care friendship bracelet is a fun, creative way to practice mindfulness and celebrate kindness and care for yourself!

Here's how you can turn it into a mindful, creative moment:

Self Care Bracelet - How To Make

Materials:

  • Embroidery floss, coloured threads, stretch bracelet cord

  • Scissors

  • Permanent pen or biro

  • tape

  • Pony Beads

Steps:

1. Set Your Intention:

  • Before you start making the bracelet, take a moment to reflect on what you want to focus on in terms of self-care.

  • You can think of it as creating a bracelet that represents your journey or goals for healing, peace, or strength. What do you need to carry with you?

  • Maybe you'll write a word with letter beads that symbolises what you want to tell yourself or an idea you want to carry. Ex peace, love.

    2. Wrap a piece of string/cord  around your wrist where the bracelet will go.

  • Leave the cord on the roll while you do this rather than cutting it straight away. Use a permanent marker to mark the string with your desired length.

3. Tape the cord to the table just after this pen mark.

  • Still do not cut the cord from the reel, just in case you want to adjust later!

  • The tape is where you will put your beads up to.

4. Pick your beads:

    • Choose colours that represent the feelings or intentions you want to embody. For example:

      • Blue for calm

      • Green for growth and nature

      • Pink for self-love and compassion

If you have letter beads, maybe  write a word with letter beads that symbolises what you want to tell yourself or an idea you want to carry. Ex. peace, love or a reminder to breathe during times of worry/stress.

5 . Line up your pony beads on a flat surface.

  • Lining them up will help you know what order they will go on your bracelet cord. choose enough beads to fill the cord up to your tape.

Leave a cm or so of cord on the opposite end to the taped down end, this will make holding and tying your bracelet easier later.

6. Start Threading:

    • Still do not cut your cord or thread.

    • Work from left to right and thread your beads onto the string.

    • Keep moving through your pattern until you've reached the final bead and all the beads are on the cord up to the tape.

7. Close the Bracelet:

    • Cut the cord from the rest of the roll after your tape. Leave yourself enough cord to be able to tie the ends together.

    • Gently peal off tape and tie ends of cord together. Make sure the knot is tight!

8. Reflect and Wear It:

  • As you tie it on your wrist, take a moment to reflect on the intention you set and think of it as a reminder of the care you are committing to yourself. Every time you look at the bracelet, it can serve as a gentle reminder to prioritize self-love, peace, or whatever quality you want to nurture.

This can be a mindful, creative craft and a great way to connect with yourself.

Enjoy the process!
